Liberty in Christ Applications from Galatians Tracy Moyers

2 Free From the Law of Moses
Galatians 2:15-21; 3:1-27; 4:21-31

3 Hebrews 8:7-13 NKJV 7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second. 8 Because finding fault with them, He says: "Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah-- 9 "not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they did not continue in My covenant, and I disregarded them, says the LORD. 10 "For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. 11 "None of them shall teach his neighbor, and none his brother, saying, 'Know the LORD,' for all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them. 12 "For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more." 13 In that He says, "A new covenant," He has made the first obsolete. Now what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.

When you hear, “We are free from the law of Moses,” what immediately comes to mind that we have been freed from? (Interactive Question)

5 Do you struggle with “going back” to the old law today?
(Interactive Question)

6 It’s New It’s Heart It’s Free
Today’s Focus It’s New It’s Heart It’s Free

7 (Interactive Question)
Are you saved because you hear, believe, confess, repent, and are baptized? (Interactive Question)

8 (Interactive Question)
Can you be saved without hearing, believing, confessing, repenting, and being baptized? (Interactive Question)

9 Summary on Faith vs. Works
1. You can not do enough good works to earn (deserve) salvation (Romans 3:23; Romans 6:23). Only Christ was perfect! 2. You can not separate belief in a promise from action (obedience)! (Heb. 11; Romans 10; Mark 16:15-16; Acts 2:37-38; 1 Cor. 6:9-11)

10 Purpose of the Law Gal. 3:23-25 But before faith came, we were kept under guard by the law, kept for the faith which would afterward be revealed. 24 Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. 25 But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor. Rom. 7:7-8 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! On the contrary, I would not have known sin except through the law. For I would not have known covetousness unless the law had said, “You shall not covet.”   God’s Character, Mercy, Justice and Desire For His People!

11 It’s New Christianity is New, not the Law of Moses 2.0
Imagine the shock from the Scribes, Pharisees, people and even the Apostles (Luke 5:21-22; Luke 5:33-ff; Luke 6:2; Matthew 20:20-28; etc…)

12 You’re Changing Everything

13 It’s New Christianity is New, not the Law of Moses 2.0
Imagine the shock from the Scribes, Pharisees, people and even Apostles (Luke 5:21-22; Luke 5:33-ff; Luke 6:2; Mat. 20:20-28; etc…) Simply put -- "A new covenant," He has made the first obsolete (Heb. 8:13). Don’t drag the “Old” into the “New.”

14 It’s Heart Genesis 12:1-3, 7 (Three Promises)
Land (Physical) Nation (Physical/Spiritual) Seed (Spiritual) Physical Nation becomes Spiritual Nation (Acts 10, 15, 17:30, 2 Tim. 2:4; Titus 2:11) I will be your God “if you will be My people” (Old) I will be their God “and they will be My people” (New)

15 It’s Heart Physical Becomes Heart
“You have heard it said … but I say” (Matthew 5:17-48) Faith Continually Transforms (Romans 12) False Teachers Say, “There is Now No Law” Does Scripture agree (Jeremiah 31:31-35, Hebrews 8:7-13, 1 John 2:3-4)?

16 It’s Free Atonement: to cover, to appease, to reconcile
Can the blood of bulls and goats take away sin (Hebrews 10:4)? Priests offered sacrifices daily (Hebrews 10:11) Established the scapegoat (Leviticus 16)

17 It’s Free Christ did what no man could do!
Fulfilled the Law (Matthew 5:17-20) Offered a sacrifice once for all and sat down at the right hand of God (Hebrews 10:5-12) “Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.” (Hebrews 8:12) We don’t have to be super heroes. We simply have to believe the promises, even if human wisdom differs.
