Jesus hand-picked 12 specific disciples.
Jesus also wants all men to be His disciples. We need to know the importance & costs of being a disciple.

A disciple is not above. his teacher, nor a slave above his master
A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a slave above his master. It is enough for the disciple that he become as his teacher, and the slave as his master. Mt 10:24-25

If anyone comes to Me, and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple. Lk 14:26

Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.
Lk 14:27

So therefore, no one of you can be My disciple who does not give up all his own possessions.

One may claim he is interested in becoming a disciple of Jesus.
Jesus tells such a one what awaits him & what is expected of him if he becomes a disciple.
