1 Thinking about The Liturgy of the Word

2 What does the word Liturgy mean?
Have you heard the word liturgy before? Liturgy means the praise and worship of God by people gathered together When we say Liturgy of the WORD whose word do you think we are gathering to hear?

3 In Mass Bidding Prayers where we all pray for God’s help
In mass on Sundays the Liturgy of the Word has these different parts: A reading from the Old Testament A psalm (we sometimes sing this) A reading from the New Testament We sing or say the Alleluia (praising God) A reading from one of the 4 Gospels A Homily –this is where the priest tries to help people understand what the readings mean Bidding Prayers where we all pray for God’s help

4 The readings When we hear the Word of God we are reminded of how much God loves us, how he wants us to live and how he was present in the lives and stories of people from the past. The person who reads it has therefore an important role

5 The Reader What qualities do you think a reader should have?

6 Thinking Deeper If you were the priest and the people had just heard the story of Amos what would you want to say in your homily that would help people understand the meaning of the story
