REPORT ON INTER-AGENCY COMMITEE MEETINGS

Sensitizing The Department is now on a sensitizing mission regarding the advancement of data collection for the environmental statistics and indicators. Prior to the announcement of this workshop there were no meetings with stakeholders. We recently met with stakeholders one on one. We did not attend the previous workshops. We are now advancing the 2011/2012 work plan.

Types and frequency of data collected by the EHD Storage facilities Requirements of both departments (SDM& EHD) Challenges faced by EHD International and local Statistics and Indicators

Indicators obtained/expected to be obtained
EHD Obtained Vector Control Data Expected Environmental Related Diseases Complaints data Vector Control – Not a requirement for the CSMDG’s . This is the only data that has been properly collected with a rich time series spanning from 19… to present. Although we didn’t meet with The Environment Department we have collected some data on Forestry.

Proposed date of next meeting
Environment Health Department – Presently reviewing the environment statistics and indicators of the SDM to which they will propose the date for our next meeting The meeting is expected to be held in this Month Environment Department - Meeting scheduled for the 22/4/ We could not have met earlier due to other commitments and staffing issues faced by both Departments.

Challenges - Statistics Department
Human Resource Challenges Communicating with EHD The department has 6 staff – One Statistician, Two assistant Statistician, Computer Systems Officer, Statistician Cadet and Senior Clerical Officer Still without a director and Statistician Communication issues – No clerical officer to receive calls, staff are field officers and computers are not functioning and as such affects the response rate when we try to communicate via .

Challenges - Environmental Health
No clerical staff Out dated equipment Necessary equipment are not functioning No access to GoM’s secured Drives No centralised mechanism for storing data Under reporting – Only major complaints are recorded Majority are field workers All field officers take their quire books and there are no compilation of the data collected. These quire books are not properly stored. Office is generally left open to public. Only major complaints are recorded

The Way Forward Continue to liaise with the departments and concretize the activities of all stakeholders
