1 A whānau for everyone Whānau Mercy welcomes people from all walks of life, cultures and religions.

2 Rich relevant in history and today
We are an organisation driven by our values to engage with the issues of today.

3 Whakawhanaungatanga – right relationships are everything
Forming right relationships with people, organisations and the planet is vital to the success of the Sisters of Mercy.

4 A tradition of walking alongside…
Known as “the Walking Sisters” from the outset, Whānau Mercy seeks to walk alongside those we help, acknowledging their strengths as well as their difficulties.

5 Te tapu o te tangata Human dignity At the heart of Mercy Many organisations claim to be values centred. The Sisters of Mercy was built on values that are lived out every day. Te aroha Compassion Te āwhinatanga Service Te tika Justice Te manaakitanga Hospitality Te mana whakahaere Mutual enhancement Te aroha ki te rawakore Concern for poor and vulnerable

6 The Mercy Mission Wherever Mercy ministries are found and whoever we work with, our focus will be on some or all of these areas: Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi Care of the sick and dying Empowerment of women and girls Advocacy Service to the poor and most vulnerable. Care of the Earth

7 Compassion by invitation
Since the beginning the Sisters of Mercy have always gone where the community has invited them.

8 Some once called us: The“Damn it, do it”people
We have always been an organisation of people who see a need and strive to meet it – no matter the obstacles.

9 A symbol that says so much
The Mercy Cross serves as a symbol of our beliefs. There is no figure on the cross because we meet Christ in the suffering of people every day. Removing a figure from the cross also shows that women, as well as men, are a focus of our mission. The white centre also represents hope. TM

10 E kore mātou e kī, “Kua ea” We can never say, “it is enough”
Counter-cultural then, now and in the future Catherine McAuley was a counter-cultural agent for change in her time. The movement she founded continues this tradition.
