4 Beginning- confident, misses school (sick),makes up her own definitions, creative, proud, etc
In the beginning of the story, Sage is very confident. She feels confident in her skills as a student and as a person who makes up definitions to words. She is sick and misses school. When she doesn’t know the meaning of a word, she is creative in making up her own definition. She didn’t know the meaning of miscellaneous and created her definition at the grocery store. She is proud of herself.

5 Middle- excited for the vocabulary bee, embarrassed, humbled, devastated, didn’t want to go to school. In the middle of the story, Sage is excited about the vocabulary bee. When she gives the wrong spelling and definition, she felt embarrassed. The class laughed at her mistake. This was a humbling experience because she was confident in her ability to make up words. When she realized her mistake, she was devastated. She didn’t want to return to school the following day.

6 End- courage to dress up in Miss Alaineus costume, astonished, learned from her mistake
In the end, Sage had the courage to dress up like Miss Alaineus for the vocabulary parade. This showed that she learned from her mistake. Not many people would be willing to laugh at themselves. She was astonished when she won the gold trophy for her costume.
