Presentation on theme: "Charging infrastructure and test users"— Presentation transcript:

1 Charging infrastructure and test users
Concrete actions to prepare for electric mobility Maria-Angeliki Evliati, City of Stockholm / CIVITAS ECCENTRIC

2 Electrification is not the future
It’s the present EVs are 3 times more energy efficient than gasoline and diesel Noiseless urban environment Better air quality

3 Charging infrastructure
Electric mobility Charging infrastructure Consumers knowledge Procurement Environmental zones Cost difference Policy mechanisms to further accelerate electrification

4 Charging infrastructure and test users
Municipal employees Delivery companies Tradesmen Citizens Housing associations / owners Utility providers

5 Fossil fuel free city 2040 Easy to use an EV in Stockholm 4 000 public charging spots in Stockholm in 2022

6 Public charging infrastructure
4 000 public charging spots in Stockholm by 2022 1 800 places in Sweden, totally outlets 220 locations in Stockholm region, 1600 outlets CO2-emission savings: 1700 ton (from 2016 – 2018)

7 The main reason for choosing to drive an electric car was for environmental reasons, but also related to costs, interest in the technology, financial benefits, company policy, lower maintenance needs and performance. 57 % of the respondents state that they experience range anxiety less often than once a month or never, while about 20 % experience it several times a week or more frequently.

8 Private charging infrastructure
Information campaign to single and multi-family houses While business owners prefer charging at work, private owners (70%) prefer charging at home - skip going to the gas station 18 seminars, participants: over charging points established Number of participants to seminars: 1 700 Number of installed chargers: at least 2 700 CO2-savings: ton Satisfaction with seminars 5,2 out of 6 Satisfaction with exhibition: 4,8 out of 6

9 E-vans for tradesmen and deliveries
Emissions from all LCVs in Stockholm ~ tons CO2/year Emissions from all vans in Stockholm is at about tons/year But if vans (825 are BEV today) that drive in Stockholm were electric, then we would reduce the yearly emissions by ton/year – which is about 13% of the whole road emissions © Mikael Röhr

10 Introducing EVs and light EVs to city employees
Procurement in Madrid and Turku Madrid: Employees have about 250 Evs incl. motorbikes at their disposal for travels at work Turku: Employees participating in the pilot use the LEVs for commuting, travels during the workday and in their spare time. © Ayuntamiento de Madrid © City of Turku

Shared use light vehicles Battery swapping system and free-floating scooters in Munich © Adaptive City Mobility © Nagy Presseamt Munchen

12 Lessons learned Users are curious and interested in testing
Demand for product neutral information on EVs and charging Procurement can create services that didn’t exist in the market Business models for charging infrastructure EVs are not foreseen in the legal framework Cities can act as enablers
