SHAPE AND FORM Robots

I have a Question for you.
What is the difference between a circle and a sphere? What is the difference Between shape and form? We will discuss then you may Answer.

Well… Definitions (you can but don’t need to write this down… yet.
Shape: Definition: (noun) - A shape is one of the seven elements of art. When defining it within the study of art, shape is an enclosed space, the boundaries of which are defined by other elements of art (i.e.: lines, colors, values, textures, etc.). Shapes are limited to two dimensions: length and width. Geometric shapes -- circles, rectangles, squares, triangles and so on -- have the clear edges one achieves when using tools to create them. Organic shapes have natural, less well-defined edges (think: an amoeba, or a cloud).

So then these are all shape then, right?

Is this a shape?

Is this a shape?

What about this ?

So can we shorten that definition? Write this in your sketch book
Shape: an enclosed space created by any of the elements of art. IE line, color, texture, value.

forming simple Form: a shape that is not flat. Created by showing light to dark (gradient, value).

More definitions. Form: (noun) - Form is one of the seven elements of art. At its most basic, a form is a three-dimensional geometrical figure (i.e.: sphere, cube, cylinder, cone, etc.), as opposed to a shape, which is two-dimensional, or flat. In a broader sense, form, in art, means the whole of a piece's visible elements and the way those elements are united. In this context, form allows us as viewers to mentally capture the work, understand it and attempt to analyze it.

Yay! Or Nah! To form or not to form.

basics Form basically occurs when a shape gets two mores dimensions (height, width, or depth)

Create a full range of contrast

Lets try this again What is the difference between a circle and a sphere? What is the difference Between shape and form?

Practice time Draw each form in your sketch book

Now Based on what you have learned so far, draw a cube.

Draw a cylinder

Draw a cone

Complete the value skills sheet
Take your time Try to create a variation in each shade Do the best that you can at shading in your forms. Glue skills sheet into your sketch book Maybe start thinking about what forms your robot is going to be made of. PRACTICE.

Practice making other parts of your robot

Hmmm….what is your robot going to look like ?

YOUR ROBOT Must benefit mankind in some way.
Contain at least 3 drawn forms with shading There must be a background that relates to the job or functionality of the robot. It must have a name. You may use pencil and Color pencils to complete. *Search “Cartoon robots”

Draw a sketch of your robot
Tomorrow we will start on the final drawing (Project grade)
