Hyperventilation starts at arrow pointing down. The 1-min intervals are indicated by vertical lines. Hyperventilation stops at arrow pointing up. Note that during recovery, CO2 tension rises quickly to normal level. Bottom, Capnographic registration of expiratory CO2 tension in a patient with HVS. Note that CO2 tension remains very low in spite of stopping hyperventilation during recovery period, which starts at arrow pointing up.
