The care value base are the seven principles which put the individual at the heart of health and social care provision. These principles essentially form what is called the “value base” and should form the basis of all your relationships with service users and colleagues.

5 What are the principles ?
Promotion of anti-discriminatory practices, Promotion and support of dignity, independence and safety, Respect for, and acknowledgment of, personal beliefs and an individual’s identity, The maintenance of confidentiality, Protection from abuse and harm, The promotion of effective communication and relationships, The promotion of personalised (individual) care.

6 The principles continued …

13 6 Protecting individuals from abuse and harm
Although certain care workers, such as social workers and health care visitors, need to tackle abuse issues on a day-to- day basis, all health care workers will need to be aware of what to do if they suspect one of their patients has been abused. For this reason, it's vital that all staff in the industry understand the procedures to go through when reporting abuse. How might this put into place in a HSC setting of your choice ? Why is that important ?

14 7 Promoting and supporting dignity, independence and safety
