English 10 – 4/23/18 In Chapter 31, Mr. and Mr. Kumar go to the zoo. What is the significance of this chapter and what does it say about the views of science and religion? He does not get lost, he discovers alternative destinations. Willipus-wallipus – a big monster of early America. Goals – Practice good discussion and questioning skills. Discuss ideas from chapter 31. Homework –Study for Vocab. #27 on Friday.

English 10 – 4/24/18 In chapter 35, Pi say, “Things didn’t turn out the way they were supposed to, but what can you do? You must take life the way it comes to you and make the best of it.” Why does PI accept the element of chance in his life? Do they sterilize the needles for lethal injections? Anglophobia – a dislike for England and things English. Coined by Thomas Jefferson. Goals – Continue discussion of elelments in the book. Homework – Don’t forget to study for Quiz # 27 Friday.

English /25/18 In Chapter 37 when the ship sinks, Pi’s initial reaction is to freak out. He questions the purpose of reason. He asks Richard Parker questions about life and tragedy. Why is he doing this? Why isn’t “phonetic” spelled the way it sounds? Teratism – love of monsters. Goals – Actively have an intellectual discussion about ideas from the book. Homework – Study for Vocab. #27 on Friday.

English 10 – 4/26/18 In Chapter 49, Pi says that having “lost all hope” he “perked up and felt much better.” Explain this contradiction. If a cow laughed would milk come out of its nose? Manticore – a monster with the head of a man, body of a lion, and tail of a dragon. Goals – Discuss topics of interest in Life of Pi. Homework – Study for Vocab. #27 tomorrow.
