1 Friday 10/27 Write Element Paper Join Google Classroom 3rd – m8hmdhd
4th - p57hk9p 5th – cl35io 6th – ls1vnnm

2 Paragraph One The goal of this paragraph is to point out that each element is different than other elements. Check the RUBRIC!! Use the terms in the right way! The atomic number gives you the number of ____________ and it is unique for EACH ELEMENT!!

3 Example – do not copy word for word!!!!!!!
An element is matter made of only one type of atoms. Elements are different based on the number of protons, which is also the atomic number. Element X is the only element with Y protons. The protons are found in the nucleus. The other part in the nucleus are the __________. In a stable atom the number of ________ equals the number of __________. The electrons are found in the _____________. The symbol for __________ is ___________. __________ is classified as a ___________ and is part of the ______________ family/period.

4 History Paragraph Discuss how it was found, or how long it has been used for, etc.

5 Paragraph 3 Explain that the periodic table tells us how your element is like other elements in it’s group and what it will do with it’s electrons to form compounds. Explain what a group is… Include the definition of a group. Look at Section 1-3 in your book for information.

6 Chemical Properties Discuss where on the periodic table your element is found. Which group or period is it part of? What are the other elements in the group? Remember to discuss how it is similar to these other elements in it’s group. Metals tend to give away electrons to nonmetals to form compounds. Nonmetals tend to take electrons from metals to form compounds. Nonmetals will also share electrons. Metalloids can give, take or share electrons. Discuss how the period number gives you the number of electron energy levels for your element.

7 Paragraph 4 Transition the information you talked about in paragraph 3 to some real examples for your element. What are the compounds that form and contain your element? What do we use the compounds for? Are there pure elemental uses? What are they?

8 Paragraph 5 Summarize your element again in a couple of sentences. Give an interesting fact or two.

9 Peer Editing Have a classmate read thru your paper and make suggestions for improvement. Rough Draft – you will need your parents or an adult in the building to proofread your rough draft we have worked on in class. They will fill out the form and you will turn it in for the 7 points available for the rough draft. Remember to submit to Google Classroom after proofreading.
