A bit about the LNP…….our vision
To maximise collaboration in order to ensure that a healthy natural environment underpins a high quality of life across Devon with a strong green economy and healthy communities.

Origins The need for LNPs was recognised in the Gov’s 2011 Natural Environment White Paper. Natural Devon was given LNP status by Ministers in late 2012 along with the 47 other LNPs in England. Natural Devon covers Devon (including Torbay but not Plymouth)

Why is Natural Devon needed?
Our quality of life in Devon is currently generally high. However ….. Climate Emergency Wildlife crisis – insect declines……. Population growth - associated housing and infrastructure Drive to increase productivity and increase wages Invasives, Ash Dieback, intensive agriculture Uncertain future………Brexit…….???

Our environment underpins our lives
The health value of the UK’s green spaces is £30 billion a year The cost of replacing pollination services provided by bees is ~ £1.8 billion a year in the UK Visitors to the East Devon coast spend over £250 million each year The value of Brixham’s fish landing is £22 million a year ‘There is no business on a dead planet’ (Petter Stordalen, Norwegian businessman and billionaire)

Improve communication and awareness – conferences, newsletter, website, social Provide an evidence base and champion priorities – see our State of Environment report Influence decisions (national and local) Facilitate effective joint working / networking / collaboration

Natural Devon structure
Board – To provide leadership. Represents a wide range of sectors (Chair: Dr James Szymankiewicz, North Devon GP) Working Group – To improve collaborative working Forum - Open to anyone to join. Please do. Coordination – DCC’s Environment team. LNP Manager - Sarah Jennings (County Ecologist) NOT a new organisation with dedicated staff or resource – we are a partnership.
