1 A Family First 0-18 Service Pop-Up Workshop
Why doesn’t she understand? Why won’t she listen to me? Why can’t he see this is important?! Why are they banging on about that again? Soooo tired………… but I can’t sleep at night, what’s that about? Understanding Your Teen WHERE: WHEN: WHO: Family First Service By knowing more about how the teenager’s brain works it can help adults understand their behaviour better. River Alt Resource Centre, Woolfall Heath Ave, Huyton, L36 3YE Monday 7th November 9:30am–11:30am

2 Understanding Your Teenager
Is your teenager rebelling, defying your curfew, or hanging out with questionable peers? During brain development, connections that are regularly used are strengthened while those that are not are discarded. If children are raised in safe and nurturing environments, the connections made in their brains can promote traits such as secure attachment, trust, self-worth and self-control, laying the foundations for healthy social and emotional development. However, if children are neglected, abused or exposed to other trauma the world can be a place of uncertainty and fear. The workshop is two hours long and will explore how the teenage brain is wired in a way that they can’t help but feel more emotional, rebellious, sensitive to criticism and drawn to their peers-regardless of the risks involved - which in turn can contribute to social isolation, poor mental health and attraction to gangs. Refreshments and Certificate of attendence provided 
