Closed System A closed system is a system that nothing can enter or leave. In order for equilibrium to exist, the reaction must take place in a closed system. For example, if products are gaseous and are able to escape the reaction vessel, then they are not available for the reverse reaction, so equilibrium cannot occur. 5 min

Characteristics of Equilibrium
A new equilibrium (with a different ratio of products to reactants) is attained at a new temperature. No macroscopic (visible, or large scale) changes occur at equilibrium. Dynamic equilibrium is an equilibrium situation in which microscopic changes (at an atomic or molecular level) occur but macroscopic changes do not. When we refer to equilibrium in chemistry, we are always referring to dynamic equilibrium. 10 min
