Model for insulin-mediated inhibition of adrenomedullin transcription and its consequences on adipocyte differentiation. A: Adrenomedullin is synthesized in the absence of insulin signaling. Adrenomedullin acts by an unknown mechanism to decrease the mRNA expression of adipocyte-specific transcription factors, whereby it decreases adipogenesis. B: Insulin inhibits adrenomedullin gene expression by recruiting unknown trans-acting factor(s) to two negative IREs. Bold red arrows correspond to fully activated signals.
