6 Theoretical speculation in 2003
Ultra-highly magnetized SMNS formed in the merger of NS-NS is suggested (possibly as the central engine of short GRBs).

7 Theoretical speculation in 2006
A differentially rotating SMNS is formed in the NS-NS merger and the X-ray extended emission following sGRBs are driven by the magnetic buoyancy!

8 Speculation in 2006 The prompt energy dissipation of the wind of the magnetar, formed in NS-NS merger, can give rise to energetic non-thermal X-ray emission (may account for the X-ray flare-like extended emission following short GRBs)! Further studies, including how the magnetar wind breaks out the material ejected during the merger and the following magnetic energy dissipation, can be found in the works by Metzger and his colleagues since 2008 and very recently by Zhang (2012)
