HIGH relief sculpture The Cubist style

What is relief sculpture?
Relief is sculpture built up off a flat surface. High relief has areas raised up to several inches. Relief is made to be viewed from one direction.

Pablo Picasso Created the working style called Cubism.
Cubism discards perspective and shows multiple viewpoints at the same time. Breaks the figure into flat planes. Inspired by African art, specifically masks.

The design problem Mask must be constructed from all “found” materials (you may provide supplementary material). You need to use “limited alteration” of your found materials. Mask must consist of at least three (3) changes of level. Show use of the cubist approach.

What is “limited alteration” ?
Will be the last 10 points of the project. The fewer cuts made, the more points earned, however... the grade will be on a sliding scale. The amount of cutting will be weighed against the quality of the effect it has on the finished piece. Your justification of the need to cut will count. Your attempts at other solutions will count.
