GIS Day 2018 – Collaboration at its Best!
Tennessee State University and Morgan State University Collaborative Forum Recognized by GeoNet
Dr. David Padgett, Tennessee State University received recognition for his efforts on GeoNet (The ESRI Community) as one of the 15 Inspiring GIS Day 2018 Success Stories. TSU and Morgan State University developed a collaborative forum for GIS Day on November 14, The theme, The Maps of Black Folk: Geospatial Technologies in Professional Practice and Student Career Mapping, included student and faculty presentations which were shared via Facebook Live on David Padgett’s Page or zoom.
In one session, World Regional Geography I students did a live, interactive learning activity with Mr. Rodney Donaldson 9th grade students at Stratford STEM Magnet High School entitled Mapping Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE) Atmosphere Protocol Data using ArcGIS Online. The day ended with Dr. David Padgett presenting in the second GLOBE Mission EARTH webinar at 8:00 pm. EST. on how NASA satellites collect surface temperature data.
Other presentations were Mapping Southwest Asia and South Asia Climate Data using the ESRI Story Maps Platform presented by TSU students, The Maps of Black Folk: Red, Green and other Symbologies of Racial and Class (Dis)Empowerment by Dr. Mark Barnes (Morgan State University) and Geospatial Technologies in Professional Practice by Brian Ivey, Senior GIS Project Manager Office of Innovation and Technology for the City of Philadelphia and Danielle Chanté Burke, GIS Technician for the PECO Energy.
