Possible Collaborations
Let me start with the chem ambassador program Imagine if we could reach all of the more than 154,000 members of the ACS and have them each do one thing to communicate the value of chemistry in their communciaites – to their elected officials, to their schools and to their media outlets. We are seeking to help or members …read slide…. With the mission of making our members effective spokespersons for chemistry, and then Put ACS program and resources into the hands of key constituency groups – read list With the final goal of leaving behind the key relevant message that chemistry is the major solution provider for our world’s global challneges.

Path Forward Identify faculty member to serve as chapter advisor – must be an ACS member. Identify at least 6 students who will become student members. ACS will issue one-time starter grant for membership for the first six students American Chemical Society

Desired Short-term Outcomes
Before 31 December 2015, Cuba student chapter to submit application for formal creation. Cuba chapter apply for travel grant to attend one of the 2016 ACS national meetings. ACS Member Benefits will allow Cuba chapter members to gauge interest in ACS journals, publications and SciFinder. American Chemical Society

Path Forward ACS Office of Public Affairs will work with SCQ to develop Science & the Congress briefing on current & future state of Cuban science and technology. ACS to cover travel & lodging for two SCQ leaders to participate in Science & the Congress briefing. American Chemical Society

By 31 December 20/15, develop scope of the briefing, identify speakers and agree on timeframe for briefing in 2016. American Chemical Society

Path Forward Identify chemistry, chemical engineering and technical chemistry themes for engagement. Communicate with ACS technical divisions and SCQ counterparts to explore mutual interests, joint symposia, instrument/equipment donation, collaboration and other exchange opportunities. Desired Short-term Outcomes
By 15 November 2015 – SCQ to provide list of Cuban technical interests. By 31 December 2015, ACS President will communicate with ACS divisions asking for their engagement with SCQ. Explore opportunities to place ACS technical division student members in the University of Havana Intensive Spanish Program. American Chemical Society

Path Forward Determine interest/support for sustained funding for an ACS-SCQ Eliel Scholars/Fellow/Symposia program. Identify funding sources for “Extreme Classroom Makeover” at the University of Havana, dedicated to Dr. Eliel, in time for Latin America International Chemistry Olympiad – July 2016. American Chemical Society

By 15 November 2015 – ACS & SCQ send joint letter to FLAQ to gauge interest in the Eliel initiative and whether any 2016 CLAQ symposia can be held in Dr. Eliel’s honor. By 31 December 2015, ACS President will send letters to potential donors for the classroom renovation project. American Chemical Society
