Welcome and welcome back to NHSC we are happy you have chosen to continue your education with us!

What is this presentation about? This presentation has been compiled to ensure that all students are clear on campus policies and procedures regarding: Financial aid. Student accounts. Student complaint procedures.

3 Understanding your bill at NHSC
Understanding your bill at NHSC. See Student Handbook for additional information. What is charged to your student account? Tuition, books, fees, housing, and meal plans. You are responsible for your bill. Payment options: monthly payroll, checks, cash, and credit cards. Pell grant, may only cover a portion of your bill. Apply for additional scholarships $ balance = unable to register for the next semester. Keep your phone number and address up to date.

4 What is Financial Aid? Excess aid can be used for living expenses
Additional scholarship dollars result in extra money for living expenses. Pell Grant, TAT Higher Education, 477, American Indian College Fund, and TAT Chairman’s Grant are all sources of funding to help pay for school. Search for additional scholarships!

5 What is the FAFSA? The FAFSA determines your eligibility for the Federal Pell Grant A full Pell award is currently $5920 per academic year A partial Pell less than full but still split Financial Aid verification Check if you were selected. Complete the verification if you were selected.

6 Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) & The Pell Grant.
Satisfactory Academic Progress or SAP measures progress to graduation Associates 90 credit max Bachelors 150 credit max Limits still apply if you have changed majors Meeting SAP = completion of 67% of attempted credits & 2.0 Cumulative GPA Financial Aid Warning – still receive Pell for one more semester Financial Aid Suspension – will not receive Pell for the following semester if still not meeting SAP

7 What are Cost of Attendance and Unmet Need?
Cost of Attendance = cost of college + living expenses for a full year Cost of Attendance is an estimate your actual expenses may be higher You can request an increase Unmet Need = Cost of Attendance – awarded Financial Aid. Less scholarships = greater unmet need COA is $15,000 – Aid $5800 =Unmet need of $9200 Scholarships are only allowed up to the Cost of Attendance budget amount unless a COA increase was approved Current COA can be found in the NHSC Student Handbook.

8 Withdrawal, Pell Grant, & Grievances
Follow the Withdrawal process Early withdrawal may result in a payback of funds to the Department of Education. Student Appeal/ Complaints contact the VP of Student Services. Grade appeals talk to the instructor first and then work with student services if you cant resolve the issue.

9 What is FERPA? Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974
The right to inspect and review their educational records. The right to request and amend their educational records. The right to limit disclosure of some “Personally Identifiable Information”(Directory Information)

10 Important Date Information
The census date is the last day to add and drop courses for a 100% refund. The census date is 10 days into the semester or 2nd Friday by 4pm. The last day to withdraw for a W on your transcript comes toward the end of the semester. Seek out the Academic Calendar and the Academic Bulleting on the website Current Academic Bulletin = degree plan requirements you will use to graduate

11 Attendance Policy Mandatory attendance.
Attendance as participation for a percentage of the grade. Student misses 3 classes: Instructor tries to contact, Guidance counselor takes over. Guidance counselor cannot contact student = student administratively withdrawn. May affect SAP and the students other funding. No credit awarded but will be responsible for the cost of the course.

12 Classroom Expectations
Please be on time and contact your instructor ahead of time if you will be late or absent. Please limit your cellphone use to emergencies only. Use your syllabus as your guide for upcoming course content. Math and writing tutoring is available. Meet with instructor for other courses. Students with disabilities should contact the guidance counselor.

14 Mynhsc Step 1 – Get your account activated!
Visit the IT Department to get your Student ID activated. What can you do with your myNHSC account? In mynhsc you will do any online assignments that your instructor has assigned. If the instructor pre-populates power point slides you will be able to access them there and will have them available for notes. You will register for classes, access financial information and access all grades through myNHSC

Next to the Facebook and Twitter symbols see the most commonly used links. Click on the myNHSC link. Login: (Student ID #) Password: nhsc#### (last 4 of your social).

16 NHSC webmail What can I do with NHSC Webmail?
Your Webmail allows you to access s from college staff. This will help you remain informed about campus events. Financial Aid and Student Accounts will contact you via . You will receive s from instructors at your NHSC address.
