Always follow lab safety rules and regulations when working in the lab! ***On a piece of paper list 5 safety rules you think should be followed in the classroom lab. ***We will discuss these throughout today’s class.

4 Classroom safety equipment walkthrough

5 Scenarios Scenario 1 Paige, Mina, Tommy loved science class and could not wait to begin their lab. Tommy lit the bunsen burner and stretched across the flame to give Mina a beaker. Did the student do the correct action? Why or why not? Scenario 2 Terry was observing given a sample substance. The element had a sweet smell. He decided to take a big smell of it. He decided to dip his finger in it to check the taste. Did the student do the correct action? Why or why not?

Austin and Karen had just completed the testing of sample A. About that time, the bell rang to change classes. Austin and Karen left for their next class. What is wrong here? Scenario 4 John arrive to the science lab just after break. With his unfinished pack of crackers in his pocket, he and his lab partner begin the assignment as instructed by the teacher. During the class, he finishes the crackers. Is this ok? Why or why not?

7 Lab Safety Poster Project
Lab Safety Poster Project Purpose: The purpose of this project is to familiarize you with rules on laboratory safety. Collaborate with a partner to create a lab safety poster, which is accurate and visually pleasing. Requirements: Use a standard 8½ by 11 inch paper. 2. Choose 2 safety rules (1 on each side of the paper) Draw or sketch a picture about that safety rule. (The picture could show the correct or incorrect actions) 4. Somewhere on the poster, include the safety rule written. This is a fun activity to get you started off in the year. Be tasteful, colorful and creative. YOU WILL BE SHARING WITH YOUR CLASS!!
