Compound : has two independent clauses. EX: Bethany walked to the store, so I asked her to pick up a gallon of milk. Complex : has one independent clause and one dependent clause. EX: When Bethany walked to the store, I asked her to buy a gallon of ice cream. EX: Bethany walked to the store after I asked her to buy a gallon of milk.
