3 Steps to the light reaction of photosynthesis
All of the H+ in the thylakoid are released. They leave through an enzyme call ATP Synthase that makes ATP from ADP + P. The ATP is used to fuel the Calvin Cycle. Step 3 The exhausted e- is re-energized by sunlight hitting photosystem 1. The excited e- attaches to an electron carrier (NADP) with a Hydrogen to be used to fuel the Calvin Cycle. Step 2 The energy from the e- is used to “pump” more H+ into the thylakoid (active transport). The e- is now exhausted. Step 1 Sunlight strikes photosystem 2 and H20 splits. O2 leaves out the stomata (pores) and H+ stays. The electron (e-) from the H+ will be used as energy for step 2.

4 Steps to the Calvin Cycle of Photosynthesis
(2) G3P’s are combined to make (1) Glucose, a 6-carbon sugar. Step 3 Hydrogen is now added to the PGA’s from NADPH using ATP as the energy source. Now referred to as G3P (still a 3-carbon sugar). Step 2 RuBP immediately splits into (2) 3-carbon sugars called PGA Step 1 CO2 combines with RuBP (5-carbon sugar)= 6-carbons
