The Payroll Office Assisting Campus with Student Employment

2 The Law I-9 Process An employee must show documentation to his/her employer to show their identity and authorization to work. Employees must complete Section 1 of Form I-9 at the time of hire (before employment for wages begin). Fines from $110 to $1,100 PER occurrence if not completed timely

3 Current Process Current Faculty and Staff handled by HR
Students handled by hiring departments A high percentage of I-9’s are not completed timely The Director for Compliance identified this as a specific risk to the President and Provost

4 Future Future Process Faculty and Staff continued handling by HR – no changes Students I-9’s will be processed by payroll and must be completed prior to the commencement of work

5 New Process There will be office hours in the cashiers office for students to complete their paperwork We will conduct training / information sessions around campus prior to July 1 Beginning July 1, all student employees must complete their I-9 paperwork and present documents to payroll before beginning work
