Happiness level - highest for those under 30 years of age Happiness is not the absence of anxieties of course! Five Anxiety issues – # 1 is children’s future (79.82%), and # 3 is unemployment (57.87%)

4 Some developing trends…..
YOUTH “Good future opportunities through skilling” “Increase attachment with industries from the current 3 months to about 11 months or more MARKET Consumers willing to pay for the “right skills” Increasing places for apprenticeship (e.g. dzong reconstruction projects, residential buildings, SoEs & medium private companies) 1st bullet point: 77% of 86 youth in TTI Chumey, May 2019 2nd bullet point: interaction with JWPTI NC II trainees, Dec 2018 4th bullet: but needs better coordination/some formalising

National Council talks of “overhauling the TVET system” Looking for nexus between general education and skills training, pathways Through SMEs

6 What we do…. Greater industry-school linkages
Youth with skills needed in the market Building on these trends Higher chances of employment/greater appreciation in society

7 So far….. Dual training program at a 70:30 ratio between companies and TTIs under preparation (framework, guidelines, curricula for two trades, draft in- company training plans) HR preparations for pilot: 11 stakeholders (government & companies) exposed to similar programs in the region; 6 persons were trained in curriculum development, 3 in skills supervision (govt), 15 from partner companies in training supervision/managing practical classes/managing assessment of trainees. Short courses developed for two priority topics a) Tile Laying & b) Solar Water Heating System (SWHS) 65 carpenters assessed through recognition of prior learning (RPL) mode, thereby increasing their “market value.” Construction carpentry and masonry Skilled supervisors now competent in training supervision, managing practical class, managing assessment of DTP trainees

8 Potential synergies with DPG……
ADB – with their on-going project STEP-UP ADA – experiences in their tourism/hospitality engagement in the past (also, energy efficient construction?)
