Introduction The Iditarod is a race that celebrates how the famous sled dog Balto got medicine to Nome, Alaska. It started when two children in Nome got very sick with Diphtheria some medicine was found in Anchorage, Alaska. Some people had a relay race to get the medicine back to Nome. Balto lead the way for the medicine and got it back. That is how the Iditarod started.

Dogs The dog wore booties.
The equipment they had was a thing that lets you attach the rope to the the dogs called harnesses. The dogs were black. My musher used 16 Dogs.

Routes & Checkpoints The route for the Iditarod has been changed this year because of snow shortage in Anchorage so they brought in trucks of snow for the ceremonial start. This year it is going to start in Fairbanks The ending place was Nome The number of checkpoints is 17. The number of miles is 1049.

Awards The Red Lantern Award
It is an award for the last person to finish the race. The Dodge Truck Award This award is presented to the Iditarod Winner. The Most Improved Musher Award This award is presented to the musher who has improved the most.
