STUDY GUIDE FOR SCIENCE TEST
Populations, communities, biomes, classification
3
Population terms Anything that restricts the size of a population = limiting factor (water, food, disease, predators, natural disasters) Largest number of individuals of 1 species that can live in an ecosystem at one time = carrying capacity
4
Community terms
5
biomes ESTUARY – where rivers/streams meet the ocean; mixed salinity
TUNDRA – cold, dry, treeless; permafrost; North Pole TROPICAL RAIN FOREST– large amounts of rain, warm temps TEMPERATE DECIDUOUS FOREST– most common forest in US; leaves change colors, plants stop growing in winter, begin again in spring
6
classification Prokaryote = no nucleus Eukaryote = nucleus
BOTH have genetic material Scientists classify based on… Cell type, ancestors, behaviors, reproduction, nutrition/feeding
7
review MATTER cycles through an ecosystem.
water, nitrogen, carbon, oxygen ENERGY flows through an ecosystem. ARROWS show energy FLOW.
