General “Housekeeping”
Be prepared for each lab Only keep your lab sheet and lab notebook in your work area Put all your other things in the cubbies Keep your work area neat Stay out of teacher prep room

Table Manners? There is no eating, drinking, or gum chewing in the lab

Know the locations of all the safety equipment in the lab
Eyewash station Fire extinguisher Fire blanket Exits

Clean Up Dispose of all chemical waste properly
Clean all equipment and work area after experiment Wash your hands with soap and water after performing all experiments

Dress for Success No contact lenses Tie back long hair
No dangling jewelry No loose or baggy clothing Closed shoes must be worn

Goggles All Students and teachers must wear safety goggles until everyone is finished with their lab.

What do you do if….. Your lab notebook catches on fire?
Immediately notify your teacher You take too much chemical out of the bottle? Do not put it back in the original container. Ask your teacher what you should do with it.

What may happen if….. You don’t follow directions carefully?
An incorrect procedure may cause an explosion You are not familiar with the lab procedure before doing the lab? You may be confused and not be able to finish the lab within the time period.

What may happen if…… You don’t read labels on bottles twice before taking chemicals? You may accidentally use and incorrect chemical. You forget to clean up your lab station? The next group at your table may get injured from spilled chemicals.
