1 Our Solar System by Mikyah Brown
The Solar System formed around 4.6 billion years ago. There are eight planets in the Solar System. The inner planets are mostly made of rock and medal.

2 The Sun The Sun is the hottest planet in space. The Sun is over 4.5 billion years old. The temperature around the sun is 10’000 degrees Fahrenheit.

3 Mercury A year on Mercury is only 88 days long.
Mercury is the smallest planet in the solar system. Mercury is the second densest planet.

4 Venus Venus has no moon. Venus rotates in the opposite direction of earth. Venus is sometimes called morning or evening star.

5 Earth Earth’s surface is 70 percent water.
A strong magnetic field keeps our atmosphere securely blanketed around the Earth. Earth’s atmosphere protects the planet from meteors.

6 Mars Mars is 141,633,260 miles from the Sun.
A year lasts 687 days, almost twice as long as a year on Earth. One day on Mars is 24 hours and 37 minutes almost the same length as an Earth day.

7 Asteroid Belt The Asteroid Belt was first discovered in 1801.
The Asteroid Belt is in a disc shape located between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter. The Asteroid are made of medal and rock and are all irregularly shaped.

8 Jupiter Jupiter has more than 50 moons.
Four of the moons are as big as planets. Ganymede is such a large moon that it has its own magnetic field.

9 Saturn Saturn has a small rocky core covered with liquid gas.
It is surrounded by a system of rings that stretch out into space for thousands of kilometers. The rings are made up of millions of ice crystals.

10 Uranus Uranus turns on its axis every 17 hours 14 minutes.
Uranus is also sometimes called Ice Giant planet. Uranus has the coldest temperatures of any planet.

11 Neptune Neptune was named after the roman god of the sea.
Neptune was first discovered in 1846. At first Neptune was called Le Verrier, named after the man who discovered it.

12 Dwarf Planet Pluto Pluto was first discovered February 18th 1930.
Pluto has five unknown moons. Pluto is also one third water.

13 Black hole Black holes are the strangest objects in the universe.
A Black whole does not have a surface, like a planet or a star. Instead, it is a region of space were matter has collapsed in on itself.
