Hitting corner Passing corner Setting corner 1 3 4 2 Purpose of drill Moving to the ball, stopping to perform the skill then moving to the next contact, ball control and communication Keys to success Move quickly to where the ball will go and STOP to do the skill Players should call for the ball. This will give the hitter and setter an audible cue for where the target is. Hit should be for control not force. Aim for passer’s knees. Set and pass can be a little higher than normal to allow for movement to the next corner. There should be at least 15 feet on each side of the triangle. It is helpful to have a piece of tape or some other mark on the floor to mark the corners of the triangle. This drill uses 4 players and one ball. Players 1 is in the passing corner, player 2 is in the setting corner, player 3 is in the hitting corner. To start the drill player 3 tosses the ball to player 1. Player 1 passes to player 2 and runs to the setting corner. Player 4 takes player 1’s place in the passing corner. Player 2 sets to player 3 and runs to the hitting corner. Player 3 hits the ball to the passing corner now occupied by player 4. Player 3 runs to the passing corner. The drill continues with each player following their ball around the triangle until either the ball hits the floor or the drill gets too chaotic. If this drill is too hard to do as described it can be taught in stages with all three corners be passing corners or all setting corners. This can be done competitively between groups. Last group standing wins or group with the most rotations in a set time wins.
