3. The assessment of applicants progress in KhNUE
The procedure for assessing the success of the candidates of KhNUE is clearly defined the Regulations "On the Procedure for the Learning Outcomes Assessing in Simon Kuznets Kharkiv National University of Economics" (approved by the order of the rector on August 30, 2013 /No. 1) published in print and on the official website of the University.
All exams are held in the written form and verified anonymously by the members of subject committee.

4. In KhNUE it is required to end their courses with examinations
In KhNUE it is required to end their courses with examinations. There may be several independent examinations or tests in separate parts of a subject. Usually, written examinations are held at the end of each semester during the examination session.
The performance assessment period covers either one semester or one academic year.
To successfully complete a semester (or a year), a student must obtain the pass mark for all assessments and examinations in the subjects covered by the curriculum and obtain performance assessment credits for all integrated placements.

5. The PhD students report on their individual plan fulfillment.
PhD student’s studies are monitored by the responsible departments of KhNUE every half a year.

At the end of the 4th year PhD students report about their thesis accomplishment and the stage of readiness for their defense.
The PhD degree is awarded to candidates who submit and successfully defend thesis.

6. The verification of effectiveness of achievement of the assumed learning outcomes is realized by:
the assessment of the curriculum and verification of the assumed learning outcomes in the area of ​​knowledge, skills and social competences;
the diploma process - through the diploma thesis the assumed effects of education are verified. They are evaluated by the supervisor and reviewers (diplomas at the various faculties and the diploma procedure);
the achievement of a research paper - feedback through external reviews (scientific publications, speeches at conferences);
the survey of employers' opinions - opinions of employers on educational programs, including the expected learning outcomes and methods of their verification, especially concerning practical training;
monitoring the activities that prepare students to acquire in-depth knowledge and skills in conducting research and practical work-related training.

7. The procedure of defense of the thesis
Preliminary steps:
submitting a PhD student's work to the supervisor,
analysis of work by the anti-plagiarism system,
accepting work by a supervisor and an appropriate scientific council,
appointment of three external reviewers,
handing over the work for a review.
After receiving positive reviews, the appropriate scientific council sets the date of defense and the set of the commission.

8. presentation of dissertations by a student,
Directly the defense procedure consists of two parts - public and closed.
Public part:
presentation of the PhD student's profile by the secretary of the scientific council ,
presentation of dissertations by a student,
presentation of the review by reviewers,
questions to the PhD student of members of the commission and present on the public defense,
PhD student's answers for reviewers' comments and questions,
evaluation of doctoral student's response by reviewers and asking questions.

9. Closed part
The committee discusses the work of the defense and makes a secret voting on the defense and (possibly) honoring the work.
After the public announcement of the results and the positive approval of the defense by the doctoral committee, the appropriate scientific council gives the PhD student a doctorate.
