1 Mrs. McMorrow Week of: March 2019
This month was filled with READING, READING, and more READING! We celebrated Dr. Seuss, Community Readers and ended the month with wrapping up for reading! Our class read the most books in the whole grade! Can you believe it? We have continued our novel study unit with Sarah, Plain and Tall. This month, we began reading the sequel, Skylark. Throughout this novel, we will compare and contrast character traits, themes, and other elements found in both novels. In spelling, we will continue to practice suffixes with words that contain open, closed, and vowel consonant e syllables! This month, we continued studying fractions! We learned about fractions that are greater than 1 (improper fractions) by representing them with area models and on numberlines. Then we used that knowledge to identify equivalent fractions and compare factions! This month, we re-visited some map skills in Social Studies. Students located important bodies of water, cities, towns, and mountain ranges in MA. We have just started a new map project of the United States! In Science, we will continue our exploration of severe weather and climate while focusing on a research project on a severe weather storm. Soon, we will dive into studying life cycles! In writing, we have paired up with 2D to study main event strategies when writing Narrative stories. We also drafted our own main events about being alone in the Jackson school! Look for that coming home soon! We use many digital resources to learn in 3M. Students have some of these options as HW. Please let me know if you need support to access these from home!
