1 Project #2: IoT and augmented reality: agents with pervasive awareness, appearance, and abilities REU Students: Kendra Richards & Nikhil Mahalanobis  Graduate mentors: Dr. Kangsoo Kim Faculty mentor(s): Dr. Gregory Welch, Dr. Gerd Bruder Week #5 (June 24 – June 28, 2019) Accomplishments: Finished running trials in our experiment We ended up running about 22 Participants Made more progress on LaTeX paper Have more sections with more material. Started initial data analysis Ran the non-parametric statistics for the three factors (vibration, periphery, lighting) over the results for the measures (spatial presence, engagement, social presence, gaming experience, behavioral responses). So far, we only have one significant factor: "Vibration" has a significant effect on spatial presence, social presence, and engagement. "Periphery" is close to significant for spatial presence, and "lighting" is close to significant for engagement.  Double checked results with parametric statistics  Problem & Solutions Only 1 factor (Vibration) is a significant factor according to the data We initially tested 17 people when running the data analysis, so in order to push the other 2 factors over the significance threshold we decided to test 5 more participants. Slightly shot under the participants goals. This was because we had a lack of sign-ups on the last couple days of trials Like mentioned before, to make up for this we decided to test 5 more participants Plans for next week: Finish the data analysis Once done with data analysis, start writing the Results, Discussion, Conclusion, and Abstract parts of paper Finish the research paper(s) by ACM SUI 2019 Deadline (The deadline was extended to July 7th :))
