CISE CPATH What is it? Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) Pathways to Revitalized Undergraduate Computing Education Combined to create CPATH National Science Foundation (NSF) Initiated CPATH in 2007 Two year project in conjunction with four year and two year community colleges in three regions of the United States 02/27/2009

Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) CPATH Who Does It Benefit? Ivy Tech Students Who Want to Transfer to the CITG Program of PUC Disseminate best practices of CPATH to other institutions Benefits to Students, Faculty, and Employers 02/27/2009

CISE CPATH How Does It Benefit Students? Better meet challenges and opportunities of computing in society Developed using the ACM SIGITE model curriculum Seamless transition from Ivy Tech A.S. degree to PUC B.S. degree Develop knowledge and understanding of critical computing concepts, methodologies and techniques Utilize experiential learning, involving real-world activities, to become knowledgeable in more than just classroom exercises. Be better prepared to meet the demand for increasingly sophisticated technologies 02/27/2009

Experiential Learning (ExL) All graduating students who enroll at Purdue Calumet beginning Fall 2008 must complete either two ExL courses or the equivalent material CGT and ITS courses that satisfy standards established by the National Society of Experiential Education (NSEE) Undergraduate Research With Faculty Experiential Learning Questions/Answers 02/27/2009

Transfer Requirements Students work with advisors to complete the A.S. Ivy Tech degree Students work with Purdue Admissions and CITG advisors to coordinate course work Students follow the prescribed path to transfer to the CITG department at PUC 02/27/2009

Future for Graduates United States Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics Employment in the computing field is expected to increase much faster than the average through 2016* Workers with a bachelors degree in computer science, computer engineering, or information technology will have better prospects for advanced positions than those holding an associate degree or certificate Degreed IT workers who have experiential learning embedded in their education will have more opportunities to advance * Bureau of Labor Statistics LinkBureau of Labor Statistics Link 02/27/2009

What is involved? Purdue Calumet-Ivy Tech CPATH program students have the opportunity to discover the employment opportunities and financial benefits of a Purdue University bachelor of science degree Continue articulation between PUC and other Ivy Tech campuses Potential to add other programs to this agreement 02/27/2009

Success Means Asking Questions Questions ??? Comments Observations 02/27/2009
