I’m presenting our solution to meeting transportation needs in a large county with limited resources. Transportation Assistance in Rural Trinity County

2017 Population Estimate ,628 No Incorporated Cities 3,200 Square Miles Trinity County is located within the southern reaches of the Cascade Range in Northern California. , Shasta County to the east, Humboldt to the west, Siskiyou to the north. The population in 2017 was estimated ate 13,628.

3 Trinity Alps Wilderness Area
Rural counties are beautiful - Trinity Alps wilderness area is one of our jewels. It’s the second largest wilderness area in the state. Over 600 miles of trails. Located southern reaches of the cascade range. 517,00 acres of land. 9,000’ chiseled granite peaks and alpine lakes. Trinity Alps Wilderness Area

Small tax base; allocations for transportation funding are low, not a self help county and with low population, it wouldn’t help to be one

7 Many Communities Sparsely Populated Long Distance Travel
The county has several small communities and it’s not possible for the public transportation system to serve all of them Hours from one North Trinity to South

10 2006 - Continuum of Care Committee in coordination with the SSTAC
Identified transportation as the #1 barrier to non-emergency medical & social service appointments. Trinity County could never afford to provide transportation services to every community in the county. How do we meet transportation needs for those that public transit doesn’t work for? Identified in the SRTDP and a group of stakeholders in the Continuum of Care group found that lack of transportation was the #1 reason people couldn’t get to doctor and dental appointments and other services such as HHS, Behavioral Health. social service. They found that residents were relying on friends and neighbors, but they were often low income also.

11 TRANSPORTATION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (TAP)
Assistance for qualifying Trinity County residents Unable to transport themselves No transportation Unable to drive because of medical reasons or advanced age Are low income and have no money for fuel Mileage reimbursements/gas vouchers and bus passes Funding - LTF - Purchased Transportation under Article 8, PUC (c) TCTC was willing to allocate funding to the County so the county could find a contractor that could administer the program. Has been in place since then and is there to assist

12 Administration Provide a location and personnel to administer the program Qualify Participants Confirm Qualified Volunteer Drivers Verify Insurance Confirm Appointments Provide a voucher or Provide Bus Passes 503c group that provides many services throughout the county. 10% Social Services Locations: Redding Sacramento San Francisco Arcata/Eureka Current contract amount $45,000, which include fees to HRN to administer the program.
