The lack of effect of denatonium to stimulate insulin release in the absence of extracellular Ca2+ or in the presence of 10 μmol/l nitrendipine. The experiments were performed on HIT-T15 cells in the presence of 4 mmol/l glucose. Both glucose- and denatonium-stimulated release were inhibited by the absence of extracellular Ca2+ and by nitrendipine in the presence of extracellular Ca2+ (n = 4). *P < 0.02 vs. 4 mmol/l glucose; **P < vs. 4 mmol/l glucose + denatonium.
