5. College Choices
Community Colleges offer Associate Degrees which are two year degrees. Typically, a student can work and attend school. Some companies will pay your tuition while you work. Ask, it doesn’t hurt!

6. Universities? Universities are schools that offer 4
Year degrees called Bachelor degrees.
They may also offer Graduate degrees.
Possible Funding Sources Include:
Work Study Programs—
You work for the university, and your pay goes to help fund your college expenses.
On campus jobs
Help with Summer Internships, i.e. Luminant Energy offers internships each summer to engineering students.
Co-op programs are available for upper level college students. Students work 6 months and attend classes 6 months.

16. How to Figure Your G.P.A.
Tier 1 Classes=AP, Pre-AP and DC Tier 2 Classes =All other eligible classes Tier 1: Tier 2: 100= =4.0 Note: Any grades 95-99= = below a 70 are 85-94= = considered failing 75-84= = and will be calculated 70-74= = in G.P.A. as a zero. 69 and below=0.0 on both scales Examples: Tier 1: Tier 2: 92=4.2 92=3.2 81=3.1 81=2.1 75=2.5 75=1.5

17. When is G.P.A. Calculated?
Grade Point Averages are calculated as an average and grades utilized for calculations are only determined through semester (final term) grades.

18. Top 10% Rule
Students who graduate in the Top 10% of their class AND have earned the distinguished achievement level under the foundation program are eligible to receive guaranteed admissions to Texas State Universities. University of Texas at Austin is Top 6%.

19. How is Class Rank Determined?
Class Rank is posted on your final transcript from Weatherford High School Ninth Grade Center at the end of the school year. Your final freshman GPA and class rank will also be posted on the end of year report card.
(d) High school rank for students seeking automatic admission to a general academic teaching institution on the basis of their class rank is determined and reported as follows:
(1) Class rank shall be based on the end of the 11th grade, middle of the 12th grade, or at high school graduation, whichever is most recent at the application deadline.

20. How is Class Rank Determined?
In Weatherford, Senior class rank is finalized and frozen at the end of the 5th six-week. Fourth and Fifth six weeks are averaged together for the semester grade.
(2) The top 10 percent of a high school class shall not contain more than 10 percent of the total class size.
(3) The student's rank shall be reported by the applicant's high school or school district as a specific number out of a specific number total class size.
(4) Class rank shall be determined by the school or school
district from which the student graduated or is expected to
graduate.
