2. The thesis statement is a focused sentence that expresses the writer's analysis of a particular topic, covers what the entire essay is about, and alerts the reader to how the essay will be developed and organized.

3. What is the foundation of a good thesis statement?
...answers the question
...is supportable by evidence
...is precise
...previews broad points of your argument
...is arguable (in other words, isn't simply statement of fact)

4. An acceptable thesis is one that makes an analytical argument that responds specifically to what the prompt is calling for you to address in the FRQ/DBQ.

5. DBQ Thesis
You must not simply restate the question; your thesis must reflect your analysis of the documents.
