2 What is argumentative writing?
Argument/persuasive writing is a chance to get people to think the way you do about something. Some common forms of persuasion are: advertisements and even a simple letter.

4 Name Calling Giving an idea a negative label
Used to make us reject and criticize something without even really thinking about it first.

7 Glittering! Used to make us accept and approve something without really thinking about it first. Often “virtue words” are used Examples of virtue words: best, new, love, improved, baby, science, dentist, doctor, expert, health.

10 Transfer Carries the authority and reputation of someone respected over to merchandise in order to make the product acceptable. An example of this would be, “Dermatologist recommended.”

Consists of having some respected or famous person say that something is good. Example: A celebrity endorsement

16 Plain Folks The method by which a speaker attempts to convince the audience that his ideas are good because they are “of the people,” the common, or “plain folks.” Politicians trying to seem like regular people. Commercials showing average Americans to promote a product.

19 Card Stacking The selection and use of information in order to give the best or worst possible case for an idea, program, person, or product. “Get a home security system because the world is not a safe place!”

21 Band Wagon Attempts to convince that all members of a group we belong to are accepting this and we must also. Example: “Everybody is doing it. So follow the crowd and jump on the band wagon.”
