8 The Personal Work of Being a Parent
Lots of people use the term “personal work”, usually referring to sharing the gospel with others.

9 Ephesians 6:4, Colossians 3:21
Do not exasperate so that they don’t lose heart Do not provoke your children to anger Bring up in the discipline & instruction of the Lord Eph 6:4 Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. Col 3:21 Fathers, do not exasperate your children, so that they will not lose heart.

10 Ephesians 6:4, Colossians 3:21
Do not exasperate so that they don’t lose heart Do not provoke your children to anger Bring up in the discipline & instruction of the Lord Provocation and Exasperation leads to a child losing heart, and not pursuing the things of God

11 Ephesians 6:4, Colossians 3:21
Do not exasperate so that they don’t lose heart Do not provoke your children to anger Bring up in the discipline & instruction of the Lord Provocation and Exasperation leads to a child losing heart, and not pursuing the things of God

12 "Come now, and let us reason together," says the LORD,
Exasperation Unreasonable - Expectation of perfection - Lack of explanation - “Because I said so” Isaiah 1:18a "Come now, and let us reason together," says the LORD, God, as a Father, is not unreasonable. He constantly implores us to reason and understanding. He desires us to be without sin, yet made an atonement for us in sin.

13 Exasperation Numbers 23:19
Unreasonable Hypocritical Dishonest Unspiritual Numbers 23:19 "God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent; Has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good? Hypocrisy destroys lives, especially those of children. Yet no one realizes they are acting the hypocrite. We demand our children obey us, but we do not obey God. We demand they honor us; do we honor others? We tell them that God is important, but in the actions of our lives we declare otherwise.

14 Exasperation Unreasonable Hypocritical Unloving - Not making the sacrifices necessary - Loving other things more John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life” Don’t hate your children. Most people don’t think that they hate them, but to love them less is to hate them. Gods love for his children was greater than his own life. Is ours? Forgive your children.

15 Exasperation 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17
Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us eternal comfort and good hope by grace, comfort and strengthen your hearts in every good work and word. Unreasonable Hypocritical Unloving Disabling - Not supporting spiritual pursuits - No providing positive encouragements Equip your children to serve God. Get them to bible classes and opportunities to be with other Christians.

16 Training and Admonition
There is only one goal in Christian parenting: To raise a child who is known by God “Raise them…. in the Lord” Two requirements: Discipline / training / nurture Instruction / admonition Your one goal: give them to God

17 Training and Admonition
Training, discipline and nurturing: 1) You are leading them in righteousness 2) You are explaining to them righteousness 3) You are disciplining them in righteousness One of the greatest parenting failures in the Bible is the absence of consistent discipline.

18 Training and Admonition
Instruction and admonition 1) You are aiding their understanding 2) You are a living example of the Mind of God 3) They know your love for God is above all You are not their only teacher, just their greatest. Be the example they live in.

19 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.
Works That Bear Fruits Having children who love God benefits us In honor and respect In life satisfaction 3 John 4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth. Heb 2:17 Therefore, He had to be made like His brethren in all things, so that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. 18 For since He Himself was tempted in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted.
