1 Stakeholders R. Dimper 15 January 2019
Photon and Neutron Open Science Cloud Stakeholders R. Dimper 15 January 2019 This project has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No R Dimper – Stakeholders - PaNOSC kick-off meeting January 2019

2 The PaNOSC constellation
Connecting the RIs to the EOSC R Dimper – Stakeholders - PaNOSC kick-off meeting January 2019

3 …but what is the EOSC? … “a vision”
Serve Europe’s 1.7 million researchers and 70 million science and technology professionals. A trusted virtual environment to store, share & re-use research information. Reduce re-invention! Avoid duplication! Simplify Access! Support interdisciplinary re-use! R Dimper – Stakeholders - PaNOSC kick-off meeting January 2019

4 The EOSC Concept Two Directorates involved: RTD + CONNECT
Main elements of the EOSC concept are: FAIR principles Data stewardship Interoperability and access Community based Lightweight Sustainable governance Building on existing initiatives User driven “An ecosystem of services”, Open data and open science Data Exchange layer Services Doi: / – Published R Dimper – Stakeholders - PaNOSC kick-off meeting January 2019

5 European RIs and the EOSC
A constellation of Stakeholders Us The challenge: make the pieces fit R Dimper – Stakeholders - PaNOSC kick-off meeting January 2019

6 RIs  e-Infra Research Infrastructures E-Infrastructures EGI GEANT
EUDAT OPENAIRE PRACE Research Infrastructures Based on Massimo Cocco, ENVRI R Dimper – Stakeholders - PaNOSC kick-off meeting January 2019

7 RIs  e-Infra Data acquisition Rich metadata Data catalogues
Data analysis software Workflows, pipelines User training Data Exchange layer Services AAI Data storage, archiving Data transfer Cloud computing HTC, HPC R Dimper – Stakeholders - PaNOSC kick-off meeting January 2019

8 The EOSC core 2016 – EOSC pilot 2017 – EOSC-hub 2018 – Governance

9 PaNOSC – ESFRI Roadmap and Landmark projects
Photon and Neutron Open Science Cloud R Dimper – Stakeholders - PaNOSC kick-off meeting January 2019

10 Integrating the ESFRI labs into the EOSC – InfraEOSC-04
ESFRI Cluster projects 7 partners SSHOC – Social Science and Humanities Open Cloud 19 partners ENVRI-FAIR – Environmental Research Infrastructures 15 partners EOSC-LIFE ESCAPE – European Science Cluster of Astronomy and Particle Physics ESFRI 31 partners EOSC-LIFE – Life Sciences (ELIXIR) 13 partners R Dimper – Stakeholders - PaNOSC kick-off meeting January 2019

11 EIROforum – IT Working Group
CERN ESA EUROfusion ESO Eu-XFEL ESRF EMBL ILL R Dimper – Stakeholders - PaNOSC kick-off meeting January 2019

12 LEAPS – Photon Science = PaNOSC partner LEAPS launch event in Brussels 13-Nov-2017 PaNOSC is complementary to LEAPS and preparing the LEAPS IT road map in particular for data analysis services R Dimper – Stakeholders - PaNOSC kick-off meeting January 2019

13 LENS – Neutron Science = PaNOSC partner
R Dimper – Stakeholders - PaNOSC kick-off meeting January 2019

14 Observer nominations - status
+ Project Coordinators of the four other Cluster Projects R Dimper – Stakeholders - PaNOSC kick-off meeting January 2019

15 Integrating the National RIs to the EOSC – InfraEOSC-05b
The national Photon and Neutron RIs have submitted a proposal to INFRAEOSC-05b – ExPaNDS; decision is pending If ExPaNDS is successful the two projects will for sure work tightly together through the Project Managements If ExPaNDS is not successful we have to find mechanisms to associate the national RIs closely with PaNOSC beyond the current Observer status: One Observer per lab, designated by the respective lab mgt Observers can nominate substitutes Observers can attend all meetings but not the general mgt telcos nor the Exec Board meetings Observers have access to all documents Observers have to cover their own travel and subsistence cost R Dimper – Stakeholders - PaNOSC kick-off meeting January 2019

16 Conclusion Integrating all Stakeholders will be an essential ingredient of the success of PaNOSC such that: We learn from each other Share expertise and best practices Work together Make sure that results are taken up by our community R Dimper – Stakeholders - PaNOSC kick-off meeting January 2019
