Burlingame Talks Together about Sea Level Rise // May 21, 2019
Sea Change Burlingame People are asking what is the City doing about SLR? Been lot of uncertainty. FC showed that's one city can do it. Put idea Burlingame should come up with a plan. Study is meant to look at what the general approach is. To date we haven't looked closely at it. City wanting to think about how to respond to SLR This is our first outreach meeting and we’d like to hear thoughts you may have on this topic City initiated a study to look at potential threats and vulnerabilities from rising sea levels, with the objective of coming up with concepts for how we could address SLR in coming decades. Community has a better understanding of the implications of SLR in Burlingame and surroundings There is an understanding of “what might work” and “what is less likely to work, or won’t work” – allowing prioritization in the future. There is a path forward of next steps Burlingame Talks Together about Sea Level Rise // May 21, 2019

Sea Change San Mateo County Study
Last year the County completed a Vulnerability Assessment. This is a baseline we are building off that County provided but wanted more info on flood pathways in Burlingame when flooding starts happening. Get info on what is vulnerable. And have strategy on how to protect all the assets to slr. This study will take us to next stage, what should city consider.

Example Adaptation Matrix
Alternative Theme Concept Description 1 Protect Conventional Raise shoreline in lowest spots; reinforce seawall & pump station near south end 2 Nature Based Living shorelines; oyster reef 3 Accommodate Live with Water Floodproof sensitive assets; retain upstream flows; expand infiltration; alternate access route This matrix is something we’d eventually get to. After we’ve explored many options, we’d consider a few concepts, that could look like this (step through) and we’d probably have a hybrid option> To be honest– most successful approaches are going to need to be hybrids anyway. Space, permitting, or feasibility may force this.

General Plan Concepts Protect - Conventional Levees, Seawalls
Protect – Nature Based Rocky Beaches, Oyster Reefs
