23 1. Flowers produce pollen (needed to fertilise other flowers). 2. Insects (like bees) and birds are attracted to flowers due to their brightly-coloured petals and scent. 3. When they collect the nectar from flowers, some of the pollen gets on them. 4. When they fly to another plant to collect nectar, some pollen is deposited into the new flower.

24 5. This can result in fertilisation and a fruit developing. 6. Fruits (which have seeds) are eaten by animals. The seeds (with the droppings) are then spread far and wide, causing new plants to grow. 7. Flowers with small petals, no nectar and no scent depend on the wind to disperse their pollen.
