The number of neurons presenting crosstalk from cAMP to the ERK1/2 cascade increases with age.
The number of neurons presenting crosstalk from cAMP to the ERK1/2 cascade increases with age. Single-cell data of pRII (A) or pERK1/2 (B) intensities after stimulation with 5-HT (2 µM, 5 min), PGI2 (2 µM, 5 min), Fsk (10 µM, 5 min) or NGF (1 nM, 60 min). A fixed threshold (dashed gray line) was used to evaluate the number (given as a percentage) of responding neurons. The numbers of pRII-responsive neurons remained similar in different age classes, whereas the number of pERK1/2-responsive neurons was threefold higher in neurons from adult versus newborn rats (n=4, total of >1500 neurons/condition).
