Slide 7 - Class discussion to write a check list of what would be included in a good rationale, then compare with a given example.
Slide 8 – 9 - goes through what makes a typical rationale and the assessment for it. The students will be assessed at LO2 for this section.
Activity
Slide 11 – students to complete a word document to help them think of what to write for their rationale. They will then write up their rationale in their project documents using the work they have just completed.

This lesson is to get the students to come write up their rationale. This applies for both the investigation and artefact projects. The students do find this section hard. Get the students to think about what they need to help achieve their aims and how are they going to do this (plan and methodology).

6. Why do you need a rationale?
To help develop an understanding of what needs to be done and how it will be done.
To help identify any issues with areas of research- i.e lack of information, access to information issues.
To consider what resources are required and the availability of these resources.
What methods are you going to use? Primary and Secondary research? What are you intending to do?
Why did you choose these methods? What are the advantages and disadvantages of these methods?
