How can AVID help you? AVID is an academic, regularly scheduled elective class that helps students by: Teaching study, note-taking and organizational skills Strengthening their reading and writing skills Giving tutorial help with college tutors Teaching them to work collaboratively

How can AVID help students?
Taking them to visit colleges and universities Assisting students to prepare for college entrance exams (ACT, SAT, EAP, etc.) Introducing them to community service.

What does AVID curriculum include?
1. Reading and Writing Critically. 2. Collaborative and inquiry based work like Socratic Seminars, Philosophical Chairs, Speech writing and presentation, Debates etc. 3. College and career preparation and information.

Binder Expectations Students will have a divider for each class.
This divider will be organized so that handouts, notes, and other assignments can be found easily.

Cornell Notes 6TH Grade 4 notes per week from any subject points each 7th Grade 6 notes per week from any subject points each 8th Grade 8 notes per week from any subject points each You may do Learning Logs if you don’t have enough notes.

Tutorials Tutorials are like study groups: students ask each other questions in order to help each other understand concepts.

Preparing for College: Grades are turned into points.

The lowest grade will be a C.
What is the lowest grade that you can have in all of your classes if you are in AVID? The lowest grade will be a C.

A-G Requirements a. History/Social Science (2 years)
b. English (4 years) c. Mathematics (3 years, UC recommends 4) d. Laboratory Science (2 years, UC recommends 3) e. Language Other than English (2 years, UC recommends 3) f. Visual/Performing Arts (1 year) g. College Preparatory Elective (1 year) “C” or better.

The Fun Part now: 4 Movie/pizza nights $5 each
2 University field trips $5 each 1 End of the Year trip to Knott’s Berry Farm $40 or so 1 AVID shirt $10 3 Parent nights FREE

The forms that you need to have:
1. AVID Application 2. Teacher recommendation 3. AVID contract 4. Enough tutorial forms 5. Enough binder evaluation forms.
