Exogen can be postulated to occur in three ways: (i) exogen occurs independently of entry into anagen (ExogenA); (ii) exogen occurs at some time after the follicle has re-entered anagen, and indeed, club hairs may be retained through a subsequent one or even two cycles, (ExogenB); (iii) exogen occurs late in anagen of the following hair cycle (ExogenC).
