2. Brainstorm pick the idea that you can write the best speech about
make sure it is not too general
make sure it is not too specific
too general = too much information to choose from = hard to focus your speech
too specific = not be enough information

3. Purpose? what is the purpose of your speech? to entertain? to inform?
to persuade?

4. Outline point form introduction body - 3 or 4 main points or arguments
conclusion

5. Introduction amusing interesting story quotation question fact
not “Hi my name is Billy-Bob and today I’m going to talk to you about …”

6. Body 3-4 paragraphs should develop your idea logically
one idea should follow another in an order that makes sense or is linked
use “CRREST”:
comparisons
repetition
reasons
examples
statistics
testimonies

7. Conclusion not abrupt not necessarily “thank you”
can restate or refocus your speech (look to your introduction)
make sure you stayed on topic!

8. Editing edit and practice (out loud) have friends check for:
logical sequence
awkward wording
strong words
timing
voice and posture
