4
HOW TO SPOT FAKE NEWS? WHERE has it come from?
WHO wrote it? WHO sent it? WHEN was it written? WHAT is the background to it?
5
THE SOURCE WEBSITE: check the URL: mistakes? Strange- sounding?
SOCIAL MEDIA: check the account: creation date of the account. THE IMAGE: check if the images have changed or photoshopped.
6
TYPES OF FAKE NEWS SATIRE: it’s writing that uses humour or exaggeration to make fun of hot-topic issues. MISLEADING CONTENT: writers can sometimes use real information to make an issue or a person seem different from what they really are. FALSE CONNECTION: it happens when a headline or caption leads you to believe something that is different from the actual content of the writing. FALSE CONTEXT: quotes by people are often used entirely without context, or with deliberately false information about the context in which it was made. IMPOSTER CONTENT: it’s most often used in Singapore to scam people, like when sites pretend to be official government sites to get people’s NRIC number or credit card details. MANIPULATED CONTENT: written content can be manipulated but this is increasingly happening with photos and videos. FALSEHOOD: it’s what most people mean when they say «fake news».

ANALYSIS OF A FAKE POST FROZEN VENICE
This photo shows the landscape of frozen Venice. It is a fake photo because it is photoshopped and the author of the post on Twitter (Nois7) is an artist who manipulates photo. The first picture is actually a picture of Piazza San Marco, but the ice was added later. The ice that was inserted into the image comes from a picture of Russia’s Lake Bakail.
